Helping Members Week 2/27 -3/06 is songman Week!

SONGMAN'S STORY

On January 16, 2010, I suffered an acute heart attack (the widow maker) and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. I was told that only 10% of the victims of this type of heart attack survive; most die instantly. After evaluation, I was told that my kidneys both failed as a result of the heart attack. A stent was implanted to open a 98% obstruction. I was then placed in the intensive care unit for four days. That evening, I suffered another heart attack and a balloon pump was implanted to artificially keep my heart pumping. This was in place for three days (two days is typical). My family was told that I had a 0%-10% chance of survival. Two days after the pump was implanted, I went into Ventricular Fibrillation (V-Fib) in my sleep (a fatal condition). The ICU staff and my cardiologist worked tirelessly to stabilize my heart. It was stunned and enlarged so badly that the extent of damage could not be evaluated. Having suffered with many more complications, my team of cardiologists determined that 40%-50% of my heart tissue was just scar tissue leaving only 50%-60% of my heart tissue in proper working condition, and my left ventricle is significantly damaged (the cause for V-Fib). So, my team of cardiologist agreed that I needed to have an Implantable Cardiac Device (ICD) implanted to shock my heart (a defibrillator) and bring me back to life. I am at risk of another V-Fib event anytime as well as a heart attack. On July 14, 2010, that device was implanted. I also suffer with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD. Panic attacks and intense anxiety will easily provoke another fatal heart related event. I remain at high risk of another heart attack, and the device is not intended to prevent this from happening. It will only save me from another V-Fib event. I require a car because when the device turns-on, I need to see my doctor immediately, or go directly to the hospital as well as other related needs. Public transportation is not an option because I don't have the energy to wait for it (I sleep 5-7 hours per night and 2-3 hours each afternoon), and they rarely will take me to locations I need to travel to for medical reasons, or to run necessary errands such as to the local food banks, the market and pharmacy. Expensive taxi rides are my only other option depending on the nature of medically necessary travel. Due to my financial situation (I struggle greatly and need to get food from the food banks), and I cannot afford a taxi because my transportation needs are so great. I live alone, and have nobody available to me when I need transportation. It is so critical that I have my own transportation in light of my significant heart tissue loss and daily energy struggles, and all of my transportation needs. I cannot walk very far, and I am on 10 medications: 8 for my heart and two for my PTSD: Valium and Ativan together. Please, please help me. I desperately need it. You are my great hope. Thank you.

Helping Members Week 2/20 -2/27 is GrayBeard Week!

GRAYBEARD'S STORY
I'm a 57 year old male that has had much misfortune in my life.In 1976 I was involved in an auto accident caused by a drunk,(head on 145 mph impact), as I was thrown from the vehicle my jugular vein was clipped and I bled to death,(took 43 pints of blood through January). As I was flung out of the drivers' door both cars came together and crushed both my legs and with both legs folded underneath me,my right knee cap was ground off as I slid 364 feet on a concrete highway.I have a steel rod screwed into my left hip down through the femur and into my left knee,my right leg was so shattered that they couldn't do anything with it but let it heal on its' own,They had to rebreak right leg because it had started growing inward so my right leg has a crooked place in my right femur which has caused one leg to be 2" shorter than the other. That day of the wreck they were originally going to amputate both legs, but,by the grace of GOD the doctor on call decided to try and save them.(You just can't imagine the frustration of having to learn how to walk all over again at the age of 22). In February 2008 I had two double kidney failures caused by me coming in contact with Agent Orange while on my tour of duty in 'Nam. It was so serious that the Doctors said to call in the immediate family, I had been given two emergency dialysis and on the third one they said if it didn't take all they could do was stand there and watch me die.Since then I've had to endure dialysis through my groin and being fed by IV in my arm as I'm severely anemic and have diabetes, at this time they say that my kidneys are only putting out 25% out of both together. I also have emphysema in my left lung and have to be on oxygen 24/7.I have been fighting for my VA benefits with no luck,(they say that they can't find my records and/or I waited too long to file). It has gotten to the point where I can't walk without falling down,(my legs are losing their strength and coordination).I was approved for a power chair back in December of 2009 and received it, but I have no way to transport it to my Doctor visits or anywhere else I need to go.I need to use my chair as I can't walk very far at all without either falling down or sit down because I can't breath. My wife has just survived breast cancer and I need a mini van or something similar so I can be able to take my chair to all our Doctors visits and therapies. We try to survive on our measly Social Security check,so we don't have very much if any left over after paying bills to buy or make payments on one. There is more times than not that we've had to make a choice to either buy food to eat or buy the medications that we need. So,please,if you can find it in your hearts please vote for me so I can be able to do the things I need to do for the BOTH of us. GOD Bless and may he shine on your life and give you unmeasurable love and blessings. P.S. I am in dire need of a mini van or small SUV please, please find it in your hearts to help me as I need one desperately so I can take my wife to her cancer treatments and me to mine. We've been having to cancel too many of our appointments because of our transportation issues.

Helping Members Week 2/13 -2/20 is StillKickin Week!

PATRICIA'S STORY

Hello, my name is Patricia, I live in rural WV,Gilmer County; the closest town is Glenville, which is 10 miles away up and down the hills. My major medical problems are many, but here goes;I have cataracts in both eyes, and it has been three years since an exam, the state will not pay anymore for exam and never has paid for eyeglasses! I suffer with severe COPD,Asthma, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, Arthritis throughout my body, Diabetic Neuropathy in my left side,Carpal tunnel ,both arms, trigger finger problems, brought on by the Diabetes,Panic Anxiety, and Chronic Depression. I am sure there are some I forget, list is like I am a broken down old bag of bones! I have three beautiful grandchildren and a son and daughter in law living in Ohio, and have not seen them in a very long time. My heart breaks when the children ask " Nana, when can we see you?" I can barely walk at times, have trouble sitting for long periods of time, high heat and humidity I cannot breathe in, and extreme cold weather I cannot be in. I have had many horrors in my life, way too long to go into; short story is that I survived a very abusive ex husband, raised my child on my own for years, then met my current husband, who has been my blessing. He has difficulty with his back,as do I,and is barely able to move at times, but typical man, will not go to a doctor,. He is unemployed, and truly unable to work. I have been on SSI of $606.60 a month for over four years now, have not had a car for over five years;I just want some of my independence back and a way to get to and from where I need to be and see my grandchildren more often. The winters here can be brutal, and impossible to drive in,when there is snow! I have two herniated discs, one in my neck, one in my back, and three fusions, two in the back, and one in left hip.Bone spurs floating in my back, you name it! YIKES! I am a survivor of four rapes in my life, one being my ex-husband! My mother passed when I was but four ,and my father when I was 24. Do I feel I need a car? Most definitely! Am I the most deserving? Only the Lord knows that! I can say that my son is always telling me I need to worry about myself more and take care of myself more, but I can not change who I am. I have always given of myself, and I have been blessed many times over for that! Thank you Jesus! Yes, I pray my dreams will come true, and my needs will be granted. My wants are immaterial! I have been here for awhile now, and have to say, that God has blessed me with so many wonderful, caring, loving people that are my friends. He has truly gifted me in that department. My Sister in Christ, Sarah, my dearest friends, Candice,Barb, Milodeke, Tinker, Papi and the list goes on and on, everyone of those on my friends list is just as important to me as the next! I love each and everyone of them, and would do whatever I can for them. My home is open, my heart is filled with love, and I am here for anyone who needs me! I will do my best to do my Lord Jesus will, and continue what he has given me to do. I thank all those who have helped me and continue to help me on my way to my dream, with their many votes and transfers. I would not have made it this far without them. Thanks to all of you from the bottom of my heart! God Bless everyone! Much love, Patricia
